New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) In a remarkable operation, the West District team of Delhi Police from Police Station Moti Nagar successfully cracked a significant theft case involving Rs 35 lakh within a mere 48 hours of the incident being reported.
The suspect, identified as Vivek Raj alias Sahil, a 23-year-old accountant working at the victim company, was apprehended in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, with Rs 34,98,550 in stolen cash found in his possession.
As per an official press release by Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer, the theft occurred on May 24, when a call was made to Police Station Moti Nagar reporting the loss of Rs 35 lakh from the office of Dynamic Forge Company at Magnum House-2, Karampura.
The complainant, a Field Officer at the company, informed the authorities that he had secured the cash in an almirah before heading to another branch. At the time of the theft, the only person present in the office was the accountant, later identified as the accused.
Upon the complainant's return, he discovered the almirah ajar and the cash missing, prompting the registration of a case and the commencement of investigations.
A specialized team was promptly assembled under Inspector Varun Dalal, SHO Moti Nagar, consisting of Sub Inspector Parveen Kumar, ASI Rajinder, Head Constable Amit, and HC Jatin. The team carried out extensive raids across Gurugram, Noida, and Azamgarh, checking over 40 hotels and employing both technical surveillance and human intelligence to locate the suspect.
The breakthrough arrived on May 26, when the team received a tip-off regarding the accused's whereabouts at Manglam Hotel in Azamgarh.
Upon verification, hotel staff confirmed that a man resembling Vivek Raj was in one of the rooms. Police intervened and detained him.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and directed officers to a black carry bag on the bed, which contained Rs 34,98,550 in cash. The recovery was conducted in the presence of hotel personnel and independent witnesses.
The accused, Vivek Raj alias Sahil, son of Bihari Lal, hails from Village Bhangrola, Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana, and is currently in police custody.
