Substantial damage to infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, has been reported throughout Nagaland as a result of the heavy rainfall over recent days.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has indicated that from September 8 to 14, intense rainfall has led to numerous landslides and floods, resulting in destruction to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural lands in several districts.
In Manipur, both the University Director and the Higher Education Department along with the Education (School) Department have issued separate notifications indicating that all colleges and universities, including government, private, and government-aided schools, will remain closed on Wednesday due to the adverse weather conditions causing floods and landslides across the state.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal has released an urgent circular that is effective immediately, due to the unexpected rise in water levels around the hospital complex. In the interest of patient safety, all current in-patients are to be evacuated from the hospital wards without delay.
Furthermore, no new admissions will be accepted until further notice.
This directive has been issued by Lokeshwar Singh, the Medical Superintendent of JNIMS Hospital, with the approval of senior authorities.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of patients amid the challenging circumstances.
Disaster management officials have reported that two significant rivers, the Iril and Wangjing, have breached their embankments in various locations within the Imphal valley, resulting in the flooding of vast agricultural lands and residential areas.
Recent reports indicate that the Iril river has inundated significant croplands, human settlements, roads, and bridges in the Imphal East district, while the Wangjing river is also flowing beyond the danger level, flooding several regions in the Thoubal district.
Many villages and areas in Imphal East and Thoubal districts have lost road connectivity after an iron bridge at Yairipok, built over the Thoubal river, was swept away by floodwaters.
The Manipur Fire and Emergency Services teams have successfully rescued numerous stranded individuals and transported them to relief centers at Yairipok Khoirom Mayai Leikai in Imphal East.
In Nagaland, the State Disaster Management Authority has confirmed the destruction of many houses, roads, bridges, and agricultural lands across different districts.
