Mumbai, April 1 (NationPress) Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia praised the Maharashtra government on Tuesday for its successful roll-out of Bharat Net Phase I. He emphasized that in Phase II, the focus should be on establishing a comprehensive communication network reaching every remaining Gram Panchayat in the state.

The Bharat Net project aims to develop a rapid communication framework for all Gram Panchayats across India.

Scindia attended a review meeting in Mumbai regarding the status of BSNL’s assets and the overall communication infrastructure within Maharashtra.

Notable attendees included Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik, Union Telecom Secretary Neeraj Kumar, and BSNL Managing Director Robert Ravi, among others.

“As part of Bharat Net Phase II, the plan is to establish one lakh 4G network towers nationwide, primarily in unconnected regions. This initiative is set to enhance communication services even in the most isolated areas of the state,” Scindia stated.

He also pointed out the need to eliminate barriers to establishing communication networks in rural locales.

Scindia directed the formation of a committee consisting of officials from the Urban Development Department, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and the Central Department of Telecommunications to assess BSNL and MTNL properties in Mumbai, with a report expected within four weeks.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured complete cooperation from the state government in setting up communication systems in remote areas, including Gadchiroli.

“We will ensure safety in the most remote parts of Gadchiroli when establishing towers. Proper communication infrastructure will facilitate the connection of local youth to modern technologies,” he mentioned.

He further noted that connectivity projects are also underway in remote regions, including Gadchiroli.

“The government aims to enhance connectivity in all Gram Panchayats throughout the state under Bharat Net Phase II. The state will lead the nation in this Phase as well,” he indicated.

The Chief Minister added that the government would review the reservations and purposes of BSNL and MTNL assets in Mumbai.

“Measures will be taken to eliminate the reservations according to regulations. The government plans to develop various facilities for citizens on these properties. Actions will be initiated following the committee's report to the government,” he confirmed.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde remarked that establishing a communication system in Gadchiroli's remote areas will significantly aid the state government in completely eradicating Maoism.
