Los Angeles, Nov 7 (NationPress) Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence revealed the inspiration behind her upcoming Muppets film featuring the feminist icon Miss Piggy, which will mark the character's first solo project since her debut on The Muppet Show in 1976.
After announcing that she’s producing a Miss Piggy film in collaboration with her friend Emma Stone, Lawrence hinted at some intriguing ideas for the beloved character, according to reports from deadline.com.
“During the lockdown, a close friend of mine—someone outside of the entertainment industry—brought up the topic of cancel culture,” she shared on The Tonight Show. “It was as if both events were unfolding simultaneously. We were all confined to our homes, while some naughty individuals faced consequences.”
Lawrence continued, “Miss Piggy is a feminist icon, and my friend suggested it would be hilarious if Miss Piggy faced cancellation. While that isn't necessarily the main plot, it certainly sparked some creative thoughts.”
She emphasized, “There hasn’t been a solo project dedicated to Miss Piggy, so I began to produce it. Emma Stone is the Muppet-head. I’m simply the ideas person. I approached her with, ‘What’s our next step?’ Now, Cole is writing, and it’s going perfectly.”
Previously, Lawrence announced this project on the Las Culturistas podcast, mentioning that she and Stone hope to have roles in the film.
Miss Piggy began her journey as a chorus pig on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s and gradually became a prominent figure, turning into an icon by the late 1970s and early 1980s. Although Kermit was the star, she has consistently stolen the spotlight from her froggy counterpart.
Recently, The Muppets celebrated their 70th anniversary, leading up to last month's announcement regarding a revival of The Muppet Show, produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures.
