Raipur/Bijapur, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement for security forces battling left-wing extremism in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a collaborative operation on Saturday resulted in the discovery of a substantial stockpile of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and Maoist supplies cleverly hidden in dense forest regions.
The operation unfolded in the challenging terrain between Bandepara and Neelamadgu villages, under the jurisdiction of the Madded police station.
Acting on precise intelligence, teams comprised of personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Bijapur, officers from the Madded police station, and members of the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 22nd Battalion initiated an extensive search operation in the forested area.
During this thorough combing exercise, the teams uncovered 16 pressure IEDs skillfully concealed along the Bandepara–Neelamadgu path and within the adjacent woodland.
These devices, which were hidden inside beer bottles by Maoist operatives, represented a serious threat to patrolling security personnel as well as local inhabitants. The Bomb Disposal Squad swiftly neutralized all 16 IEDs on-site, adhering strictly to established safety protocols to avert any potential detonation, officials reported.
Further successes were achieved when the joint team unearthed a significant Maoist cache buried within steel containers and plastic buckets at several underground locations across the same forest area.
This recovery included a considerable amount of explosive materials and logistical supplies aimed at sustaining insurgent operations in the region.
Security forces seized 784 gelatin sticks weighing around 100 kg, three bundles of cordex wire, approximately 350 meters of black uniform fabric, one kg of gunpowder, along with various communication gear, including four walkie-talkie chargers, four batteries, and two mobile phone chargers.
Moreover, the search operation led to the retrieval of Maoist literature, spare uniforms, backpacks, and everyday essentials such as oil, soap, and storage containers, according to police officials.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of security forces to disrupt Maoist networks in the Bastar region through continuous, intelligence-led operations.
By neutralizing these lethal IEDs and depriving the insurgents of essential supplies, the operation has significantly impaired their operational capabilities in Bijapur district.
Officials indicated that monitoring of Maoist movements in the area remains rigorous, and similar proactive operations will persist to restore peace and ensure the safety of local communities from the ongoing threat of Naxal violence.
