Imphal, July 26 (NationPress) In a noteworthy achievement, the security forces have successfully recovered 90 firearms and approximately 728 various types of ammunition during a coordinated operation in the conflict-prone region of Manipur, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.
This latest arms recovery marks another significant milestone for the security forces within a span of just one and a half months.
A senior police official reported that during the early hours of Saturday, based on precise intelligence regarding a substantial stash of arms and ammunition hidden across five districts in the Imphal valley, multiple search operations were initiated simultaneously.
Teams comprising Manipur Police, the Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully uncovered a considerable cache of firearms and a vast amount of ammunition and military supplies from the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.
Among the total of 90 firearms retrieved, there were five INSAS rifles, four Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), three AK series rifles, seven .303 rifles, 20 pistols, four carbines, eight rifles, 20 SBBL and Bore Action rifles, three anti-riot guns, and other assorted weaponry.
The ammunition haul includes 21 grenades, explosives, mortar shells, tube-launching devices, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Additionally, 41 assorted magazines and six wireless communication devices were recovered during these operations.
As stated by the police official, there were 21 assorted magazines and 24 wireless handsets found alongside the arms and ammunition.
A police statement emphasized that these ongoing intelligence-driven operations signify a major victory for the Manipur Police and security forces in their relentless pursuit to restore peace, maintain public order, and protect the lives and property of citizens.
“The Manipur Police reaffirms its dedication to cultivating a peaceful and secure environment in Manipur. Citizens are encouraged to collaborate with the Police and Security Forces and promptly report any suspicious activities or information regarding illegal arms to their nearest police station or the Central Control Room,” it stated.
The statement further noted that senior police officials are in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations are sustained and focused on restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
Saturday’s recovery of arms represents the fourth significant success for security forces in the last month and a half.
On July 15, security forces conducted joint operations, recovering 86 arms and around 974 different types of ammunition across the same five districts.
On July 4, another operation led to the recovery of 203 arms and approximately 160 different types of ammunition from four hill districts: Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur.
