Security Threat to Female Jail Officer: Six Inmates Relocated to Various Prisons in Karnataka

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Dec 6 (NationPress) In response to a threatening audio message sent to the Chief Jail Superintendent of Kalaburagi District Prison, six inmates, one of whom is a terror suspect, have been relocated to various jails within the state, as disclosed by sources on Friday.

The Chief Jail Superintendent, R. Anita, received a menacing audio warning from an unidentified individual, threatening to blow up her vehicle with explosives.

Among those transferred is Zulfikar Ali, a terror suspect linked to the 2013 bomb blast incident in the Malleshwaram area of Bengaluru. The inmates have been reassigned to prisons in Belagavi, Dharwad, Shivamogga, Ballari, and several other districts.

Sources indicated that the inmates who were relocated include Bachchan, known as a rowdy sheeter from Shivamogga, Abdul Khader Jilani, Sheik Saddam Hussain, Zakir, and Vishal.

Officials confirmed that they had secured court approval prior to the transfer. Investigations revealed that these inmates were living luxuriously within the prison, allegedly in collusion with some prison staff, and were undertaking blackmail against the officers by recording their activities.

The threatening audio was sent to a police inspector in Kalaburagi, who then relayed the information to Anita. Consequently, her official vehicle is now under constant CCTV surveillance.

Recent reports suggested that certain inmates were receiving preferential treatment within Kalaburagi Prison, leading to an inspection by senior officials, including the ADGP Prisons. Since taking charge a month and a half ago, Anita has enforced strict regulations to eliminate such practices, including a prohibition on the sale of gutka, beedis, and cigarettes within the prison.

These reforms have faced backlash from inmates, with both undertrials and convicted prisoners protesting against the new rules. Despite this, Anita has stood her ground and refused to ease the regulations, effectively ending the special treatment previously granted to influential inmates.

It is believed that the threatening message may have originated from dissatisfied inmates frustrated with these stringent measures.

The police are currently investigating the source of the message, suspecting it may be connected to Anita's recent initiatives to combat illegal activities within the prison. This incident has raised alarms among prison staff.
