Srinagar, Nov 9 (NationPress) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir emphatically declared on Sunday that he did not pursue any alliance with the BJP for the 2024 elections concerning statehood or any other agenda. This statement came in response to allegations made by BJP's Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, who claimed that Omar had traveled to Delhi to negotiate an alliance.

Sharma challenged Omar to visit a mosque or a religious site and swear that he had not sought an alliance with the BJP following the 2024 Assembly elections.

Taking the accusations seriously, the Chief Minister took to X to state, “I swear on the Holy Quran that I did not seek an alliance with the BJP in 2024 for statehood or any other reason. Unlike Sunil Sharma, I don’t fabricate lies for a living.”

Sharma’s statement included a direct challenge: “Swear on the Quran you didn’t seek BJP alliance for statehood in 2024.”

As campaigning wrapped up for the two Assembly seats of Nagrota and Budgam on Sunday evening, political tensions escalated ahead of the bypoll scheduled for November 11.

Omar has been informing voters of a supposed coalition among various political parties against the National Conference in Budgam, claiming that the BJP, PDP, Apni Party, and others are uniting to defeat the NC's Aga Mehmood in this bypoll.

The by-election in Budgam was necessitated after Omar Abdullah won two seats in the 2024 Assembly elections, subsequently resigning from Budgam. The Nagrota seat became vacant due to the passing of the BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana on October 31, 2024, with the party nominating his daughter, Devyani Rana, for the seat.
