New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Tuesday that India is emerging as a "lighthouse of stability and growth" during a period marked by global policy turmoil and uncertainty.

During the inauguration of ‘Semicon India 2025’ at Yashobhoomi in the national capital, the minister encouraged international industry leaders to invest in India, emphasizing that the nation’s semiconductor mission is being implemented in a transparent and professional manner.

“In these uncertain times, my friends, you should consider India as our policy remains stable. We have managed the semiconductor mission with utmost transparency and professionalism,” Vaishnaw stated while addressing an assembly of delegates, industry visionaries, and innovators from around the globe.

The minister recalled that the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) was launched just a few years ago under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and since then, the country has made remarkable progress in a brief period.

“Currently, the construction of five semiconductor units is in progress, with one unit’s pilot line already finished. The first Made-in-India chip was also presented to the Prime Minister,” Vaishnaw noted.

He further added that two additional units are set to commence production in the coming months, while designs for five more units are advancing well.

Vaishnaw highlighted that India aims to encompass the entire spectrum of semiconductor applications, ranging from power electronics to consumer electronics, automobiles, defense, and strategic sectors.

He noted that global trust in India is on the rise, with ecosystem partners from chip manufacturing already operational in the country.

The three-day ‘Semicon India 2025 conference’ (Sept 2–4) focuses on establishing a robust, resilient, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Co-organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and SEMI, the event is expected to attract over 20,750 attendees, including more than 2,500 delegates from 48 nations, over 150 speakers—among them 50 global leaders—and more than 350 exhibitors.

Point of View

Ashwini Vaishnaw’s remarks reflect India's strategic positioning in the global semiconductor landscape. As the nation strives for technological self-reliance, the emphasis on stability and transparency in policy is crucial. The ongoing developments in the semiconductor sector not only boost India's economy but also enhance its global stature. It is imperative to support these initiatives to ensure a sustainable future.
