New Delhi, Sep 17 (NationPress) The Honorable Special Judge at the CBI Court in Ghaziabad has ordered the attachment of two properties belonging to a Senior Passport Superintendent, previously stationed at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Ghaziabad, as part of a Disproportionate Assets investigation.

The implicated Senior Passport Superintendent, Deepak Chandra, is currently assigned to the RPO in Mumbai.

As per the CBI, this case was registered on March 24 of this year against the aforementioned individual. Allegations suggest that this public servant amassed Disproportionate Assets totaling Rs. 85,06,900 (146.43 percent) during the scrutiny period from July 30, 2018, to September 30, 2024.

“During the investigation, a search of the accused's residence revealed substantial unaccounted cash amounting to around Rs 60 lakh, along with documentation of investments in real estate and details of significant expenditures,” the agency stated in its press release.

“Further inquiries indicated that throughout the Check Period, the accused public servant invested in two real estate assets: a residential flat in Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, and a commercial shop in Greater Noida West, Gautam Buddha Nagar, beyond his known income sources,” it continued.

Following a request from the CBI, the court issued a temporary order to attach the properties mentioned above.

Public officials are tasked with serving the nation and its citizens, but instances like that of Senior Passport Superintendent Deepak Chandra underscore how some exploit their positions for personal enrichment.

Corruption not only undermines public trust but also creates obstacles for ordinary citizens who rely on these officials for vital services.

By accumulating Disproportionate Assets and engaging in unlawful enrichment, such officials betray their responsibilities.

The CBI Court's decision to seize his properties conveys a powerful message that the misuse of power will face consequences, thereby reinforcing accountability and integrity within public service.

Point of View
