New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) The Director General of Police (DGP) for Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna, announced on Wednesday that security measures have been escalated in seven districts of the state that border Nepal. This decision comes amid the ongoing political instability in the neighboring nation, following the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli due to widespread protests by Gen Z.
During a press briefing in Lucknow, the DGP stated, “All seven border districts with Nepal are now under alert. We have fortified all Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) border outposts, local police stations, and checkpoints. Transit points have been enhanced, and our officers are closely monitoring the situation. Additionally, civil police presence in these areas has been increased to avert any potential negative impacts.”
He also mentioned that communication lines are open for Indian citizens who are currently stranded in Nepal.
“We’ve provided three landline numbers and one WhatsApp contact. We are receiving inquiries from Indians wishing to return, and we are actively working to ensure their safe transit. Following the Chief Minister’s guidance, police personnel have been augmented in these districts, and border mobility has been limited. We will adapt our strategies based on the situation in Nepal,” he further explained.
The DGP confirmed ongoing coordination with central forces and Nepali authorities.
“I spoke with the Director General of SSB yesterday, and there was a significant meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs involving senior officials. We are maintaining regular communication with Nepal’s security agencies to ensure there are no breaches in security,” he added.
This enhanced alertness follows a wave of political unrest in Nepal, which has led to a precarious security environment.
Additionally, it was reported that several inmates escaped from a Nepali prison yesterday, escalating tensions across the Himalayan region.
A high alert has also been declared along the Indo-Nepal border.
On Wednesday, the SSB successfully apprehended five of the escaped prisoners in the Siddharth Nagar sector along the Indo-Nepal boundary.
These individuals are currently in custody and are undergoing joint interrogation by the SSB, local police, and other agencies.
