Severe Fog Disrupts Air and Rail Travel in Delhi-NCR, Affecting Over 160 Flights and 50 Trains

New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) Severe fog blanketed the Delhi-NCR region on Sunday, significantly impairing visibility and disrupting both flight and train operations.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) reported over 155 flight delays and eight cancellations, primarily affecting aircraft lacking advanced CAT III navigation systems.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) reassured travelers that both landings and takeoffs were proceeding, although they cautioned that flights not compliant with CAT III may experience delays.

DIAL recommended that passengers remain in contact with their airlines for the latest updates regarding flight schedules.

At New Delhi Railway Station, numerous trains experienced major delays due to near-zero visibility, with over 50 trains affected across the national capital.

Simultaneously, road traffic was moving slowly as the dense fog continued to diminish visibility.

The Railways urged passengers to verify their train's status before traveling.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for dense fog during the morning hours, predicting reduced visibility throughout the city.

Delhi remained in the grip of a cold wave with temperatures plummeting to nine degrees Celsius.

Motorists maneuvered cautiously through the thick fog, but congestion was unavoidable in many areas.

The IMD forecasts a maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius for Sunday.

Partly cloudy skies are anticipated in the afternoon and evening.

Smog and shallow fog are likely to persist into the evening and night, further impacting air quality and visibility.

On Saturday, visibility dropped to zero in Delhi for an extended nine-hour period, marking the longest duration of such dense fog this winter season.
