Baramati, Nov 15 (NationPress) NCP(SP) President Sharad Pawar asserted on Saturday that the NDA's success in the Bihar Assembly elections can be attributed to the transfer of Rs 10,000 into the accounts of women prior to the polls.
"After the Bihar elections concluded, I had discussions with several individuals. It became clear that women played a pivotal role in the electoral process, likely influenced by the initiative to deposit Rs 10,000 into their accounts," he stated.
"In Maharashtra, a similar strategy was employed where funds were distributed under the Ladki Bahin Yojana before the elections. This isn't about exchanging money for votes, but rather, it reflects governmental schemes," Pawar remarked while addressing reporters.
“The pressing issue is whether those in authority should resort to distributing money in this manner before future elections, as it undermines public trust in the electoral system. Is such widespread monetary distribution acceptable? Everyone ought to reflect on this. The Election Commission should take this matter seriously. Elections must be fair and transparent," he emphasized.
Pawar characterized the distribution of Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh women before the elections as a form of corruption, claiming, “The government orchestrated this. We have faced similar consequences in Maharashtra, where money was also distributed prior to elections.”
He noted that the Opposition, particularly the INDIA Bloc, has yet to finalize their strategy since the election results were revealed on Friday.
“We will not overlook this issue. The parliamentary session is approaching, and we will convene a meeting of the Opposition to deliberate on our future actions,” he stated.
“Those in power are misusing their authority to distribute funds, corrupting the electoral process. We will address this. The Election Commission appeared passive despite the monetary distribution. However, those who benefitted are likely satisfied,” he added.
Regarding the election symbol for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, Pawar expressed, "This has been unfair to the Shiv Sena, which is feeling the repercussions. The hearing regarding this matter has been postponed for the third time. We must refrain from commenting on the judiciary, but the current situation is concerning. I appreciate the Election Commission for removing the trumpet symbol."
When asked about the alliance strategies among the Maha Vikas Aghadi partners in local and civic body elections in Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar responded, "These elections are contested as a party. The NCP(SP) has resolved that district and taluka office-bearers will determine our participation in these elections."
