New Delhi, Nov 18 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly for delineating India's economic trajectory and advocating for a renewed sense of pride in the nation's cultural heritage, following the Prime Minister's recent address.

During his speech at the Sixth Ramnath Goenka Lecture on Monday, PM Modi remarked, "Following our victory in the Bihar elections, certain Modi supporters in the media have claimed that Modi and the BJP are perpetually in election mode... They fail to understand that we must operate from an emotional standpoint, not a political one."

Furthermore, he elaborated on the impact of British historian Thomas Babington Macaulay on India's educational framework through the 1835 'Minute on Indian Education', which prioritized English as the main language of instruction.

The Prime Minister challenged the notion of devaluing India's own languages, stating, "Which nation disparages its own languages? Countries like Japan, China, and Korea have embraced various global concepts without sacrificing their linguistic identities. This is why our National Education Policy stresses the importance of learning in local languages. We do not reject English; rather, we advocate for Indian languages. Macaulay's detrimental influence in 1835 will mark two centuries in 2035, which is just a decade away. So today, on this platform, I urge the country: Let the next ten years be a commitment to liberate ourselves from this colonial mindset."

In response to the Prime Minister's statements, Tharoor took to X and remarked, "He spoke of India's 'constructive impatience' for progress and strongly advocated for a post-colonial mindset. The PM highlighted that India is now not just an 'emerging market', but an 'emerging model' for the global community, reflecting its economic strength."

Tharoor also underscored PM Modi's remarks regarding governance, stating, "PM Modi mentioned that he has been accused of being in 'election mode' constantly, but he is actually in 'emotional mode' aimed at addressing citizens' issues."

Tharoor commended the Prime Minister's efforts to dismantle what he termed Macaulay's "200-year legacy of slave mentality," adding, "A significant portion of the address focused on reversing Macaulay's impact. PM Modi called for a decade-long national mission to restore pride in India's heritage, languages, and knowledge systems. I wish he had also recognized how Ramnath Goenka utilized English to amplify the voice of Indian nationalism!"

He concluded by describing the Prime Minister's address as both an "economic forecast and a cultural rallying cry", expressing his gratitude for being present in the audience despite struggling with a severe cold and cough.
