The 'Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission' will be carried out through the establishment of district-level clusters, with assistance sought from the states for their formation.
Furthermore, Chouhan has directed officials to guarantee the effective execution of the 'Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana' at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that the timely implementation of both initiatives would directly benefit farmers.
The 'Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana', initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is designed to foster agricultural development in 100 aspirational districts nationwide by integrating 36 sub-schemes from 11 ministries.
The Union Cabinet has approved the scheme for a duration of six years, commencing from FY 2025–26, with a yearly budget of Rs 24,000 crore.
Similarly, the 'Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission' will also be implemented over six years with a budget of Rs 11,440 crore.
This mission aims to expand the area under pulses from 275 lakh hectares to 310 lakh hectares, increase production from 242 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes, and boost productivity to 1,130 kg per hectare by 2030–31.
In addition to enhanced productivity, the mission is expected to create significant employment opportunities.
Chouhan also instructed officials to arrange a meeting with the Ministers and Secretaries of the 11 Ministries, as well as representatives from the NITI Aayog, to ensure that farmers reap maximum benefits from the scheme, according to the official statement.
