Gangtok, May 1 (NationPress) Sikkim's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced on Thursday that the state government has prioritized the welfare of labourers, implementing a series of measures over recent years to support this initiative.
CM Tamang emphasized, “Our administration has consistently positioned the welfare of labourers at the core of its developmental strategy. Acknowledging their crucial role, we have initiated several transformative actions to enhance their dignity, well-being, and livelihood.
“A notable measure includes the revision of monthly wages to Rs. 15,000, ensuring a more stable and respectable standard of living for our workforce.
“We are also enhancing housing and essential amenities, alongside increased health benefits, to guarantee the comprehensive welfare of labourers and their families.”
He highlighted the establishment of a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital in Mamring, Rangpo, as a significant achievement in providing accessible and quality healthcare for the working community.
“To reinforce administrative capabilities and labour welfare systems, we are conducting a cadre review to ensure efficient governance.
“Technological advancements such as the launch of an online registration application and a dedicated Labour Clearance Certificate Portal aim to streamline processes and enhance transparency,” he added.
CM Tamang noted that financial support is being provided to workers under the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) scheme.
Additionally, the mass registration of workers under the Sikkim Labour Registration Act, 2021, is actively being pursued to protect their rights and entitlements.
“Through awareness initiatives focusing on labour rights, employment conditions, and fair labour practices, we aim to cultivate a safe, equitable, and progressive working environment. We are committed to fostering positive employer-employee relations, which are crucial for sustainable development and social harmony,” he stated.
The CM reiterated that these efforts exemplify the Sikkim government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing labour welfare, streamlining administrative processes, and promoting inclusive public welfare.
CM Tamang also conveyed his greetings on International Labour Day, celebrated worldwide on Thursday.
