Kolkata, Oct 7 (NationPress) A team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to assess the status of district-wise Assembly constituency mapping in West Bengal during a meeting at the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office on Wednesday.
This meeting aims to evaluate readiness for the ECI’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative in the state.
If any district exhibits insufficient progress in its Assembly constituency mapping, members of the central ECI team will request explanations from the District Magistrates and District Electoral Officers, according to sources within the CEO’s office.
“Given that district-wise Assembly constituency mapping is vital for understanding ground realities to effectively implement the SIR process, the Commission is placing significant emphasis on accurate mapping. Another key issue on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting will be addressing complaints regarding irregularities in the selection of booth-level officers in approximately 2,000 booths across certain districts,” revealed an insider from the CEO’s office.
The meeting will be overseen by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, along with the ECI’s Director General (Information Technology) and other senior officials, including Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the CEO of West Bengal, along with high-ranking officials from the CEO’s office and senior district electoral personnel.
However, District Magistrates and their subordinate electoral officers from North Bengal are exempt from attending this meeting due to their involvement in relief and rehabilitation efforts amid the ongoing crisis caused by heavy rainfall and landslides in the hills, Terai, and Dooars regions.
Plans have been made for the central ECI team and state CEO to conduct a virtual meeting later in the month with the District Magistrates and their subordinate officials from these regions once conditions stabilize.
The central ECI team is expected to arrive in Kolkata on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, the important review meeting is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.. Following this, on October 9, senior ECI officials are anticipated to visit specific districts to engage directly with district-level electoral officials.
