Kolkata, Oct 7 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a gold smuggling operation along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
An official confirmed that during the operation, eight gold biscuits valued at approximately Rs 1.09 crore were recovered.
“Responding to specific intelligence, the troops of the 146 Bn, BSF, stationed at the Charbhadra Forward Border Outpost, effectively thwarted a significant gold smuggling attempt. During the operation, the BSF personnel unveiled eight gold biscuits that were concealed in a field adjacent to the border. The total weight of the recovered gold was 832.550 grams,” stated a senior BSF official.
The official elaborated that the BSF troops at the Charbhadra Forward Border Outpost received alerts regarding miscreants who had concealed suspicious items in the fields for the purpose of smuggling.
“Acting on this intelligence, the BSF executed a comprehensive search operation in the designated area,” the official continued.
“During the search, they discovered a patch of grass that seemed unusually piled. This raised their suspicions. Upon excavation, eight gold biscuits wrapped in red cloth were uncovered. The seized gold was promptly taken to the border outpost for further legal processing,” he added.
The official noted that the BSF has successfully conducted multiple gold seizures in recent days, attributed to its robust intelligence network and swift actions.
“This smuggling attempt was thwarted efficiently. While the identities of the involved smugglers remain unknown, the BSF is thoroughly investigating the case. The recovered gold has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further action,” the official remarked.
He praised the efforts of the troops in diligently combating such crimes along the South Bengal Frontier of the Indo-Bangladesh Border.
“The troops maintain vigilant oversight along the international border to prevent all illegal activities. I encourage border residents to report any information related to gold smuggling to the BSF's Seema Sathi helpline number 14419 or through WhatsApp or voice messages at 9903472227. A suitable reward will be granted for credible information, and the informant's identity will be kept confidential,” the official concluded.
