Kolkata, Feb 15 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a man and seized 25 gold biscuits from him near the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district.

N K Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF, stated that the gold was valued at nearly Rs 3 crore, marking it as the largest single seizure for the BSF's South Bengal Frontier this year.

“Personnel from the 143 Bn BSF, stationed at the Bithari Border Outpost, acted on reliable intelligence regarding a gold smuggling attempt from Bangladesh into India,” he explained.

DIG Pandey noted that a specialized ambush was set up, and at around 4.45 pm, a motorcyclist was observed near the IBB.

“He was intercepted and searched as he approached the Bithari BOP. A thorough inspection of the motorcycle led to the discovery of the gold biscuits, which were ingeniously concealed within a special compartment beneath the fuel tank. The individual was promptly detained,” he added.

The recovered gold weighed 3.420 kg and was assessed to be worth Rs 2,95,90,182. During questioning, the man stated he resided in Padam Bila village in North 24-Parganas.

“He also mentioned that he had been in contact with a Bangladeshi smuggler over the past two months. This smuggler purportedly delivered the gold biscuits to him with orders to leave them at a specific spot by the roadside near Bithari market. He was promised Rs 1,500 for this task. The individual, along with the gold, has been transferred to the appropriate agency for further legal proceedings,” the DIG remarked.

He emphasized that the BSF is implementing stringent measures to combat smuggling and illegal infiltration, asserting that the BSF remains vigilant and proactive despite the evolving tactics employed by smugglers and agents.
