New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) Commending the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur for the sake of truth, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on Tuesday that her administration aims to treat every resident as part of a family and foster Delhi as a “Mini India”. Meanwhile, BJP MLAs accused AAP legislators of showing disrespect towards Sikh Gurus by employing “disrespectful language” in their discussions.
During the second day of the Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly, the Chief Minister was wrapping up a discussion regarding a statement made by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra about the 350th Martyrdom anniversary of the Sikh Guru. The opposition AAP MLAs pressed for a conversation about pollution in the city instead.
Speaker Vijender Gupta rejected their request, reminding them that a special discussion on pollution is scheduled for later in the session. Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, along with other BJP legislators, asserted that AAP MLAs used “disrespectful language” when mentioning Sikh Gurus.
The debate culminated in a confrontation between the treasury and opposition benches, with Sirsa demanding a review of video recordings to hold the “guilty” AAP MLAs accountable for their disrespect towards the Sikh Gurus.
Following Sirsa's appeal, Speaker Vijender Gupta indicated that if necessary, a motion to condemn the “disrespectful language” used by AAP MLAs would be addressed on Wednesday after reviewing the video.
Earlier, the Chief Minister expressed her congratulations to citizens and Cabinet members for the successful organization of a three-day congregation or ‘Gurmat Samagam’ near Red Fort in November.
She emphasized the Delhi government’s support for the Kanwar Yatra, Ramlila, and Durga Puja celebrations, mentioning that events for the Chhath festival of Poorvanchal, Garba of Gujarat, and Teej of Rajasthan were held with respect to honor citizens from diverse backgrounds residing in the region.
Additionally, she noted that festivals like Onam from southern states were celebrated with enthusiasm.
Previously, five-time legislator and BJP MLA from Gandhi Nagar, Arvinder Singh Lovely, urged for the renovation and revitalization of the Guru Tegh Bahadur memorial in Delhi to host annual events that commemorate the Sikh Guru’s sacrifice.
Lovely commended Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their understanding of the nation’s history and sentiments, recognizing the sacrifices of Sikh Gurus and ensuring the successful celebration of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom anniversary.
