Guwahati, Sep 11 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly criticized Gaurav Gogoi over supposed links to Pakistan and highlighted that at least three family members of the Congress MP possess British passports.
Speaking to the media, Sarma commented, “The allegations in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report concerning the Congress MP’s alleged connections with Pakistan are extremely serious. I will present the SIT report to the cabinet and subsequently, except for a few confidential details, the report will be shared with the media.”
The Chief Minister intensified his remarks on Gogoi, stating that three of his relatives hold British citizenship, which he deemed disgraceful for a parliamentarian.
“It is highly shameful that the Congress MP’s spouse and children possess British passports, while the opposition claims to uphold the values of Mahatma Gandhi. Had I been a member of the Congress party, I would have ensured this leader was removed from the platform,” he asserted.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister revealed that the SIT, established on February 17, 2025, was assigned to look into the activities of one Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates.
Sarma indicated that the investigation has unveiled troubling findings that suggest a broader scheme aimed at undermining India’s sovereignty.
“The SIT has confirmed the involvement of a British national—who is married to an Indian MP—in the illicit activities connected with Ali Tauqeer Sheikh,” Sarma stated.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister alleged that the SIT’s investigation uncovered how the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan facilitated a sitting MP from Assam's visit to their country.
“The role of Pakistan’s official agencies in promoting such interactions raises significant concerns,” he added.
Sarma revealed that the Assam government will thoroughly review the SIT report before it is presented to the state Cabinet.
“Once discussed in the Cabinet, the findings from the inquiry will be made public,” he concluded.
