Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) In a rapid and decisive action, law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur successfully apprehended a repeat offender known for snatching. They also recovered a stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used during the theft, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.
The suspect was intercepted by police stationed at the NH-24 border checkpoint shortly after he reportedly snatched a mobile phone from a young woman.
The incident took place when 20-year-old Palak Sharma, a resident of Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad, was traversing the area and was suddenly targeted by a motorcyclist who stole her mobile phone.
Responding to the victim's shouts for assistance, the police team at the checkpoint promptly initiated a pursuit of the snatcher.
The perpetrator was captured on-site, and the stolen mobile device was retrieved from him. Additionally, the motorcycle utilized in the crime was confiscated by the authorities.
Due to a recent surge in mobile thefts and snatching incidents within the jurisdiction of Ghazipur Police Station, a specialized enforcement unit was established under the guidance of Station House Officer Inspector Upadhyaya Bala Shankaram and the oversight of Madhu Vihar Assistant Police Commissioner Yash Pal Singh.
This team, consisting of Constables Sanjay and Amit along with personnel from the Emergency Response Vehicle, was strategically positioned in ERV and Omni vehicles at critical checkpoints to combat such crimes and ensure a swift response to offenders.
In light of the victim's report, a formal FIR was filed, and investigations are currently ongoing.
The accused, identified as Bhupender, aged 24, hails from Adarsh Colony in Ghaziabad's Khora Colony and has a history of involvement in snatching and theft offenses.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to participating in a previous theft case filed earlier this year at New Ashok Nagar Police Station.
Authorities noted that Bhupender had recently been released on bail on February 11 but quickly resumed his criminal activities.
Officials affirmed that both the stolen mobile phone belonging to the victim and the motorcycle used in the crime have been successfully retrieved.
