Jammu, April 6 (NationPress) A soldier tragically lost his life on Sunday due to an accidental gunfire in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the deceased soldier, 27-year-old Vijay Kumar from Rajasthan, was discovered lifeless while on duty this morning.
“He was swiftly transported to the hospital where medical personnel confirmed he was dead on arrival. The police have initiated an investigation into this incident to determine the precise cause of death. Initial inquiries suggest that the soldier succumbed to an accidental discharge from his own service rifle,” the officials reported.
It is important to note that the Army and other security forces are on high alert in Jammu division, including districts such as Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Udhampur, and Ramban, following reports of terrorist movements in these regions.
On March 23, five terrorists were spotted in the Sanyal village of the Kathua district. A police unit promptly engaged the terrorists, resulting in the death of two terrorists, while four local policemen were unfortunately martyred.
Joint forces later confronted the remaining three terrorists in Safiyan Jakhole village. Subsequently, operations were expanded to higher elevations in the Kathua and Rajouri districts.
A brief skirmish occurred on Friday between security forces and terrorists in the Billawar area of the Kathua district.
The higher regions of Kathua border Kishtwar and have seen heightened security following targeted assaults by terrorists backed by Pakistan.
To prevent hit-and-run tactics by terrorists, Para commandos from the Army and CRPF personnel have been deployed in these elevated areas and deep within forested zones.
The presence of foreign mercenaries in the border districts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Kathua has led joint forces to reassess their strategies.
The updated approach focuses on targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, who, as stated by Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, are integral to the Pakistan-supported terror network.
