New Delhi, May 22 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu recognized the valor of courageous soldiers from the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and police forces of states and Union Territories at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A total of six soldiers were bestowed with the Kirti Chakra (four awarded posthumously) and 33 soldiers received the Shaurya Chakra (seven posthumously).
Among the dignitaries present were Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This commendable ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
The bravery awards were conferred upon personnel who displayed unmatched bravery in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency missions. These honors also acknowledged military personnel who performed their responsibilities with exemplary courage, often without regard for their personal safety.
The award recipients included soldiers who demonstrated valor in operations against terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast. Numerous notorious terrorists were either killed or apprehended, and a significant cache of weapons was seized. Officers of the Indian Navy spearheaded anti-piracy missions that not only rescued hostages but also resulted in the surrender of pirates, showcasing remarkable bravery in firefighting on a burning oil tanker.
Indian Air Force officers undertook significant risks to ensure public safety by flying aircraft into secure areas during emergencies. Officers and soldiers of the CRPF exhibited courage in regions influenced by left-wing extremism, leading to the capture of several Maoists and the confiscation of weapons.
Among the Kirti Chakra recipients were Major Malla Rama Gopal Naidu from the Maratha Light Infantry, Major Manjeet from the Punjab Regiment, and Rifleman Ravi Kumar of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (posthumously). Colonel Manpreet Singh, Deputy Superintendent Himayun Bhatt of Jammu & Kashmir Police, and Naik Dilawar Khan of the National Rifles also received the Kirti Chakra posthumously.
