The Commissionerate police apprehended Jena at a relative's residence located in the Nilagiri region of Balasore district.
Immediately following his arrest, the BJD suspended Jena without delay.

The statement reads, "Amaresh Jena, Corporator of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, is hereby suspended from Biju Janata Dal with immediate effect."

On July 23, a 19-year-old girl filed a complaint at the Laxmisagar police station, accusing the BJD corporator of sexually assaulting her under the guise of marriage.
The victim stated that she first met Jena during a religious event in June 2023, and shortly after, he gifted her a mobile phone professing his affection.
According to the allegations, the two had been in a sexual relationship since September 2023, when the girl was only 17. The victim further claimed that in February 2024, upon learning of her pregnancy, Jena coerced her into having an abortion.
However, in April 2025, Amaresh Jena allegedly assaulted her and instructed her to leave Bhubaneswar at once, even threatening her with severe repercussions should she disclose their relationship.
