Former Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena Joins BJP After BJD Resignation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 11 (NationPress) In a significant political shift, Rabindra Kumar Jena, the former MP from Balasore, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just a day after leaving the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday.
Jena, accompanied by numerous other leaders from the BJD and more than 100 of his associates from the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Bhadrak, participated in a special ceremony at the BJP state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.
During the event, Jena expressed his motivation for joining the BJP, emphasizing the necessity for regional advancement in Balasore, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj, while asserting that India and Odisha's progress is intertwined with the BJP's leadership.
“I resigned from the BJD for personal reasons. Today, I have formally embraced the BJP alongside my esteemed colleagues, local leaders, and elected officials. My primary goal is to elevate the development trajectory of our area, district, and region,” Jena stated.
Having devoted nearly 12 years to the BJD, Jena also highlighted organizational challenges within the party, particularly the lack of a defined succession strategy, as a contributing factor to his departure.
The seasoned politician contended that the BJD is unlikely to deliver Sushasan (good governance) to the people of Odisha moving forward, noting that effective long-term governance is predicated on strategic succession planning.
“In a regional party, proper succession planning is essential. Without it, developmental agendas frequently falter. I do not foresee a promising future for development without such a framework,” Jena remarked.
When asked about his wife, Subasini Jena, who serves as a BJD MLA from the Basta constituency, Jena confirmed her continued affiliation with the BJD. “Subasini is with the BJD, and she will remain there,” he stated.
Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal remarked that several grassroots leaders joined the BJP alongside Jena, including district leaders, block chairpersons, and panchayat representatives.
“With his joining, numerous district leaders, several block chairpersons, and Zilla Parishad members have strengthened the BJP. This influx will bolster our organizational presence in the region,” Samal emphasized, pointing out Jena’s political acumen and influence as key assets for the party in Balasore and its vicinities.
In response to inquiries regarding how this development might influence the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and the candidacy of Jena’s wife, Samal stated that discussions on this topic have yet to take place. “We have not initiated discussions about Rajya Sabha support or related political strategies at this point,” he added.
