Odisha: Sujeet Kumar of BJP Submits Nomination for Rajya Sabha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 9 (NationPress) BJP leader Sujeet Kumar officially submitted his nomination for the Rajya Sabha byelection on Monday.

Present during the nomination filing were Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, BJP state unit chief Manmohan Samal, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, along with various senior party leaders.

After his nomination, Kumar expressed gratitude towards the party's leadership and the BJP parliamentary board for choosing him as a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat. He also mentioned that he filed two sets of nomination papers.

“My dedication to Odisha, particularly the KBK region and Kalahandi district, during my tenure in parliament over the past four and a half years is well-documented. I will persist in my endeavors to enhance the prosperity of Kalahandi and the KBK region by leveraging its potential in agriculture, industry, transportation, infrastructure, and tourism, under the mentorship of senior party leaders,” Kumar articulated.

Previously, the BJP’s Central Election Committee announced Sujeet Kumar’s name for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha.

“I express my gratitude to the Central and state leadership of the BJP for deeming me fit for the Rajya Sabha by-election,” Kumar conveyed to IANS.

The Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha became vacant after Kumar’s resignation on September 6 of this year. Kumar, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2020 on a Biju Janata Dal ticket, resigned from the upper house two years prior to the completion of his term.

Shortly after resigning from the Rajya Sabha, the former BJD leader Sujeet Kumar joined the BJP at the party headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha In-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab.

He also promptly submitted his resignation from the Biju Janata Dal on the same day.
