Chandigarh, Oct 20 (NationPress) In a moment of fury triggered by a heated argument, a man reportedly took the life of his 55-year-old mother by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon at their residence in Chandigarh on Monday.

The victim, Sushila Negi, a widow, was living with her son Ravi Negi, 32, who is employed at Panjab University, according to the police.

The elder son has settled abroad. Following the murder, the suspect fled but was later apprehended in Sonipat town, Haryana.

A Crime Branch team led by Inspector Satwinder Duhan is escorting the accused back to Chandigarh. Prior to the incident, Sushila had been performing a puja at home for several consecutive days.

The conflict erupted between the mother and son in the morning and escalated rapidly. In a fit of rage, Ravi allegedly attacked his mother, resulting in her death at the scene, as per police reports.

Upon hearing screams from within the house, neighbors rushed to the scene and found Sushila in a pool of blood, while her son had already fled.

The residents notified the police, who arrived and took the deceased's body into custody. Authorities reported that the accused seemed to be mentally disturbed and had managed to escape before their arrival. Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene.

The body has been sent to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for a post-mortem examination. CCTV footage from nearby captured the suspect fleeing the scene.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Sector 39 police station in Chandigarh.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover potential motives behind the murder, including alleged domestic disputes and financial troubles. The police plan to present the suspect before a local court on Tuesday.
