Hubballi, Jan 28 (NationPress) The mother of a man who took his own life, alleging mistreatment by his wife, asserted on Tuesday that her son, described as a naive and kind-hearted individual, was 'tortured to death' by his spouse.
In a statement to the media, Rebecamma, the mother of the late Peter Gollapalli, who reportedly hanged himself at his home, claimed that his wife never held him in high regard and was deceiving him.
Rebecamma criticized her daughter-in-law's behavior.
She recounted an incident where her son and daughter-in-law planned a trip to Goa but she returned midway, citing illness.
Rebecamma accused her daughter-in-law of being involved in an extra-marital affair.
She revealed that although her daughter-in-law worked as a teacher, she frequently came home late and expressed a desire to stay at her parents' residence.
When Peter confronted his wife about the man she often met, she refuted his claims, asserting that it was her personal life and he had no right to meddle.
After ongoing conflicts, she left the marital home and initiated divorce proceedings, as reported by authorities.
Peter tragically committed suicide by hanging himself on Monday in Hubballi, Karnataka, coinciding with the date of his scheduled divorce hearing.
In accordance with Peter's wishes, his coffin bore a note indicating that he succumbed to the harassment inflicted by his wife, according to his family.
Peter also left a suicide note alleging that he resorted to this drastic measure due to his wife’s 'torture'.
As per police reports, Peter, a resident of Chamundeshwarinagar, expressed in his note: 'Daddy, I am sorry. Pinky (my wife) is killing me. She wants my death.'
Peter's family further claimed that his wife demanded a sum of Rs 20 lakh as compensation.
