Kolkata, Oct 26 (NationPress) Two masons tragically lost their lives after being struck by a speeding ambulance in the Ladukhwa locality of the Goalpokhar police station in North Dinajpur district, West Bengal, as reported by authorities on Sunday.
The victims have been identified as Luv Pal and Utpal Pal, both of whom resided in the Ladukhwa area.
According to police reports, the incident took place on Saturday night while the masons were on their way home after completing their work.
The ambulance hit the masons, resulting in their untimely deaths, and subsequently fled the scene, the police stated.
Upon receiving the alert, officers from the Goalpokhar police station swiftly arrived at the location and transported the bodies to Islampur Sub-divisional Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased masons arrived at the hospital after learning the devastating news and demanded strict action against the driver responsible.
An eyewitness, Jatin Pal, reported that the ambulance was traveling at an alarming speed through the Ladukhwa area and suggested that the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
The Goalpokhar police confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the driver and recover the vehicle.
"We have initiated an investigation into this incident involving an ambulance that resulted in two fatalities. According to police, three potters were killed in a road mishap in the Kanajuli area of Gurap police station on National Highway-19 early Saturday.
The deceased potters were identified as Divas Mandal (30), Kaushik Mandal (28), and Nimai Das (38).
