The Boeing 737, operating flight SG121 from Delhi to Leh, turned back just minutes after takeoff when the crew identified a potential technical problem.
According to an airline spokesperson, “A SpiceJet flight flying from Delhi to Leh on February 24 returned to Delhi after facing a technical issue.”
“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were deplaned without incident. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson further stated.
As per airport sources, the aircraft potentially encountered an engine issue, likely associated with its second engine.
In a previous incident in November, a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing due to an engine failure, reported officials at Kolkata Airport. All passengers and crew were unharmed.
“On November 9, SpiceJet flight SG 670, which was operating from Mumbai to Kolkata, faced a technical issue during its descent at Kolkata airport. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked without any issues,” according to a statement from a SpiceJet spokesperson.
On September 12, a SpiceJet Q400 flight from Kandla airport in Gujarat to Mumbai also had to make an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) after an outer wheel was discovered on the runway post-takeoff.
The plane landed safely, ensuring all passengers and crew were unharmed.
Moreover, in October, a Patna-bound SpiceJet aircraft returned to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. SpiceJet confirmed that flight SG 497, which was operating from Delhi to Patna with a Boeing 737, made a normal landing back in Delhi, and all passengers were safely deplaned. “The aircraft landed without any issues, and passengers were deplaned safely. An alternative aircraft was arranged for the passengers,” the airline stated.
