Chennai, June 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has made a strong accusation against the BJP-led Central government, claiming it is intentionally concealing the results from the Keezhadi archaeological digs in the Sivaganga district.
In a letter addressed to party members, Stalin expressed that the Centre's unwillingness to recognize the excavation report signifies a profound “disdain” for Tamil heritage and cultural dignity.
He alleged that the BJP has purposefully delayed the release of the final Keezhadi report, which was completed in 2023 following extensive scientific scrutiny.
“Even with world-class research backing it, this report hasn’t been made public two years after its completion. This constitutes a direct attack on Tamil culture,” the Chief Minister asserted.
The Keezhadi site has revealed traces of an ancient Tamil civilization that thrived along the Vaigai River, thought to be between 2,500 and 3,000 years old.
Stalin mentioned that the findings were classified and dispatched to premier laboratories across India and internationally for scientific verification, resulting in a 982-page final report penned by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna.
“Rather than acknowledging this monumental discovery, the BJP government opted to ignore the report and transfer the excavation leader, Amarnath Ramakrishna, to Assam. This move alone highlights their discomfort with Tamil heritage,” Stalin stated.
He accused the Centre of attempting to undermine Tamil history by advocating the notion of the Saraswati River civilization, which he characterized as lacking substantial archaeological support.
“The BJP aims to obliterate the legacy of the Dravidian civilization and substitute it with a fabricated narrative,” Stalin claimed.
He also criticized the AIADMK opposition for their silence on these matters.
“AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami has surrendered the party to the BJP and is reluctant to stand up for Tamil Nadu’s cultural interests,” Stalin alleged.
On June 18, the Chief Minister noted that the DMK youth wing and coalition partners organized protests in Chennai and Madurai to denounce the Centre’s treatment of the Keezhadi report.
“These demonstrations will persist until the voice of Tamil Nadu is acknowledged in Delhi,” he proclaimed.
Stalin concluded his letter by recalling the words of the late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, stating that the BJP continues to regard Tamil culture with “bitterness and contempt” and is trying to eradicate the heritage uncovered at Keezhadi.
“We will not permit this to occur. Tamil pride will triumph,” he asserted.
