Surrendered Maoists Expected to Appear Before Karnataka Court

Bengaluru, Jan 9 (NationPress) The surrendered Maoists are expected to be presented in court following the completion of required formalities, as per sources on Thursday.

Four female Maoists have been transferred to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) premises in Bengaluru from the Mahila Santhwana Centre, while the two male Maoists who surrendered are held in a special cell at the FSL.

Authorities plan to present all six surrendered Maoists before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court concerning the cases against them. In the meantime, Deputy Superintendent of Police Balaji Singh from the Koppa Division in Chikkamagaluru district has been assigned to investigate the surrendered Maoists.

Initial investigations will focus on the recovery of arms and weapons from the surrendered individuals. Upon surrendering, they did not relinquish their arms but instead symbolically handed over their green uniforms to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The surrendered Maoists have yet to surrender their arms. Authorities have acquired details regarding their possession of dangerous weapons, and it is anticipated that confiscation will occur soon. Deputy Superintendent of Police Balaji Singh is heading to Bengaluru to interrogate the Maoists, sources reported.

On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah embraced the surrendered Maoists into the mainstream by presenting them with roses and copies of the Indian Constitution at his office, ‘Krishna’, in Bengaluru.

With the surrender of these six Maoists, the Congress-led government has proclaimed Karnataka as a Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-free state.

The individuals who surrendered include Mundagaru Latha from Mundagaru in Sringeri; Vanajakshi from Balehole in Kalasa; Sundari from Kutluru near Mangaluru; Marappa Jayanna Aroli from Raichur; Vasantha T. aka Ramesh from Tamil Nadu; and T.N. Jeesha from Kerala, all of whom surrendered in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

According to police sources, Mundagaru Latha faces 85 cases, Sundari 71, Marappa Aroli 50, Vanajakshi 29, Vasantha 8, and Jeesha 17 cases.

The Karnataka BJP has criticized the Congress government for providing preferential treatment to the Maoists and facilitating their surrender.

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Chikkamagaluru has approved a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh for each surrendered Maoist under the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation scheme for Left-Wing Extremists.
