Mumbai, May 24 (NationPress) Shiv Sena's Social Media In-charge, Rahool Kanal, has sent letters to Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging the immediate suspension of flights from Mumbai to Istanbul until Turkey clarifies its position on terrorism and ceases its support for Pakistan.
Kanal expressed his concerns regarding Turkey's recent actions in backing Pakistan against India’s ongoing battle with terrorism.
"In light of the seriousness of this matter, it is imperative that India reassess its diplomatic ties with Turkey," he stated.
"Mumbai, which contributes significantly to India's tourism (accounting for 36 percent of total tourism), plays a crucial role in shaping international relations. Indian tourists are among the largest spenders in Turkey. However, I urge the government to halt all flights to Turkey until it publicly renounces its support for Pakistan in the fight against terrorism," Kanal further emphasized.
He called for the suspension of three Turkish Airlines flights and one Indigo flight scheduled for May 29 from Mumbai to Istanbul.
"Halting these flights would be a suitable reaction to Turkey's actions, reinforcing India's commitment to its national security and sovereignty," he noted.
Kanal proposed several potential actions: Diplomatic measures, an immediate suspension of diplomatic relations with Turkey; Economic sanctions by limiting trade and investments; Addressing these concerns in international forums to build a global consensus against Turkey's actions; and implementing a tourism ban.
According to Kanal, India constitutes about 30 percent of the total tourist influx in Turkey, with over three hundred thousand visitors expected in 2024.
Earlier, on May 22, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that India anticipates Turkey to strongly urge Pakistan to end its support for cross-border terrorism.
"We expect Turkey to take concrete and verifiable steps against the terror ecosystem it has harbored for decades. Relationships are founded on mutual respect for each other's concerns," Jaiswal added.
In response to Turkey's alleged support for Pakistan, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security revoked the security clearance of Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd, citing national security issues.
Celebi has since filed a plea in the Delhi High Court challenging this decision.
