Chennai, Sep 23 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Speaker M. Appavu declared on Tuesday that the State Legislative Assembly is set to convene on October 14, commencing at 9:30 A.M. The session will start with the traditional obituary references.
During this time, members will honor former legislators who have recently passed away, including Amul Kandasamy, the MLA for Valparai, and other notable figures who have made significant contributions to public service. A condolence resolution will be adopted in their honor.
As per the Speaker, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will take place one day prior to the session to finalize the duration and agenda of the Assembly meeting.
The BAC, composed of senior ministers and leaders from the Opposition, will determine how many days the Assembly will be in session and which issues will be prioritized for discussion.
A major agenda item includes the presentation of supplementary demands for grants for the financial year 2025–26.
This presentation will enable the government to obtain legislative approval for additional spending beyond the initial state budget allocations.
Debates around these supplementary demands are anticipated to ignite intense discussions between the Treasury and Opposition Benches, mirroring previous sessions.
This session holds particular significance as it allows members to address urgent matters affecting their constituencies, such as monsoon preparedness, welfare schemes, and the state’s financial situation.
With the 2026 Assembly elections on the horizon, political analysts predict that the discussions could set the stage for future political dynamics, as the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) aims to uphold its policies against the Opposition's scrutiny regarding governance and economic management.
While announcing the schedule, Speaker Appavu emphasized the procedural significance of the BAC meeting in shaping the agenda.
“Before the session begins, the Business Advisory Committee will convene to finalize the number of sitting days and make decisions on the business to be conducted,” he stated.
The October 14 session will initiate the Assembly’s final legislative activities of the year, paving the way for vigorous debates across the political landscape.
