Tamil Nadu BJP Exposes Opposition's Blackmail Politics Targeting RS Chairman

Chennai, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP has charged the INDIA alliance with orchestrating a shameful political drama by bringing forth a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, which they have labeled as blackmail politics.

Party spokesperson and senior leader A.N.S. Prasad characterized this action as a desperate measure aimed at discrediting the BJP government.

He pointed out that this marks the first occurrence in the 72-year history of the Rajya Sabha where such a motion has been introduced, calling it a blatant instance of “blackmail politics”.

The BJP leader claimed that the opposition's actions are intended to intimidate and undermine the authority of the Chairman, thereby posing a significant threat to India's democratic principles.

He asserted that the Congress-led opposition's no-confidence motion against the RS Chair stems from frustration and an inability to counter the multitude of people-centric initiatives launched by the BJP, which have garnered widespread support across the nation.

“Despite being aware of their numerical inadequacy, the opposition resorts to disruptive tactics in Parliament to undermine the government's authority, which is deeply regrettable,” Prasad stated.

Prasad criticized the call for the removal of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, describing it as an example of “low-level politics” influenced by Rahul Gandhi's divisive ideology.

He accused the opposition of damaging India’s global reputation and fabricating false narratives concerning the country’s democracy.

“This no-confidence motion is merely a distraction designed to divert attention from pressing issues and mislead the public. Rahul Gandhi and the INDI alliance will not succeed in their endeavors, as the public can see through their disruptive behavior,” Prasad added.

Discussing the constitutional framework, Prasad referenced Article 89 of the Indian Constitution, which establishes the office of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, who also serves as the Vice President of India.

He emphasized the Chairman’s crucial role in maintaining order and decorum in the House, interpreting rules, and ensuring that parliamentary proceedings are conducted smoothly and efficiently. “The Chairman’s impartiality and independence are essential for the functioning of Parliament. Attempts to undermine this constitutional position are not only unconstitutional but also contrary to the principles of parliamentary democracy,” Prasad remarked.

He accused the opposition parties of leveraging the no-confidence motion as a means to blackmail the government and gain concessions. He emphasized that the motion is a serious constitutional instrument intended for exceptional circumstances, not for routine political advantage.

“The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is not a political appointee but a constitutional official responsible for upholding the Constitution and the rules of the House. The opposition’s efforts to intimidate or blackmail the Chairman are unacceptable,” he declared.

Prasad also cited the 1959 Supreme Court case of Pandit M.S.M. Sharma vs. Shri Sri Krishna Sinha, where the Court affirmed the Chairman’s authority to determine the admissibility of a no-confidence motion. He stressed that the Chairman’s decision on these matters is final and binding.

“The opposition must honor the independence and impartiality of the Chairman. Their exploitation of the no-confidence motion for political gain is reprehensible. The Chairman’s determination regarding the motion’s admissibility is final and binding and must be respected by all parties,” Prasad concluded.
