Patna, Jan 15 (NationPress) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat recently ignited controversy by asserting that India attained "true Independence" in 2024 following the installation of the idol of Ramlala at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

This statement has incited strong backlash from political figures, with opposition groups accusing him of belittling the nation's fight for freedom in 1947. Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, condemned Bhagwat's remarks on Wednesday.

The RJD leader charged the RSS chief with 'rewriting history for political gain and minimizing the sacrifices made by freedom fighters'.

"Such statements are an affront to the innumerable freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India's independence in 1947. It represents an effort to distort history and mislead the public," asserted Tejashwi Yadav.

In a social media update, he stated: "Mohan Bhagwat, the RSS chief, has implied that 'reservations for Dalits and backward classes will only cease when the country achieves real Independence'. By asserting that true Independence was attained in 2024, he has disrespected millions of patriotic citizens and martyrs."

He further accused the RSS of trying to erase the contributions of others in the struggle for India's independence, claiming: "The Sangh members played no part in the freedom movement... hence they devise schemes to downplay the contributions of others. Their organization acted as informants for the British. The RSS has consistently sought to undermine the historical roles of Dalits, backward classes, laborers, and farmers."

Tejashwi Yadav also criticized the RSS for its leadership structure, questioning why no individuals from Dalit or backward classes, nor women, have ever held the position of chief.

He challenged Mohan Bhagwat to confront vital issues such as the caste census, proportional reservations for Dalits and backward classes, and the economic crises the nation is currently facing.

"The country is approaching a state of slavery, as the rupee is at its lowest against the dollar. I urge Bhagwat to focus on that," remarked Tejashwi Yadav.

The opposition leader also pressed Bhagwat on when the majority of Dalits and backward classes would attain "real freedom" and critiqued the RSS for its alleged bias against marginalized communities.
