Hyderabad, March 25 (NationPress) The highly anticipated expansion of the Telangana cabinet is expected to take place on April 3 after the Congress high command has given its approval for this significant move.

It is anticipated that four to five ministers will be appointed to the Cabinet led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Sources within the party indicate that two legislators representing the Backward Classes and one each from the Scheduled Caste (SC), Reddy, and Muslim communities are likely to be sworn in as ministers on April 3.

Among the candidates from the BC community, V. Srihari Mudiraj and Adi Srinivas are reported to be the leading contenders. G. Vivek, the MLA from Chennur and a member of the SC, is also likely to be included.

Vivek is an industrialist, a former MP, and operates a Telugu news channel. He is the son of G. Venkakswamy, a former Union Minister and prominent Congress figure.

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the sibling of Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, may also secure a position in the Cabinet. The names of senior leaders Sudershan Reddy and Malreddy Ranga Reddy are also reportedly being considered.

Given the current lack of representation from Muslims in the Cabinet, the Congress leadership has decided to include a Muslim member. Amer Ali Khan, a Member of Legislative Council, is viewed as a strong candidate.

The decision for the Cabinet expansion was made following discussions with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Telangana unit President Mahesh Kumar Goud, and AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natrajan in New Delhi on Monday.

The expansion decision was influenced by the state unit's core committee, which included senior leader and minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal reportedly finalized the ministerial list.

Revanth Reddy and his 11 Cabinet colleagues took their oaths on December 7, 2023. The state has a maximum limit of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.

The party leadership seems to have made a decision to leave one or two Cabinet positions vacant.

A multitude of aspirants for Cabinet positions have been awaiting this expansion for over a year. Although there were strong expectations for an expansion after last year's Lok Sabha elections, and the Chief Minister's numerous visits to New Delhi, the leadership kept the matter unresolved.

The Congress party holds 65 MLAs in the 119-member state Assembly. Additionally, ten MLAs from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) switched their allegiance to the ruling party last year.
