Hyderabad, Sep 29 (NationPress) The elections for rural local bodies in Telangana are set to take place across five phases during October and November, as announced by the State Election Commission on Monday.
Voting will occur for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs), and Gram Panchayats.
Polling for the MPTCs and ZPTCs is scheduled in two phases on October 23 and 27, while the Gram Panchayats will have elections in three phases on October 31, November 4, and November 8.
More than 1.67 crore voters are expected to participate in these elections. State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini revealed this eagerly awaited election timeline.
The counting of votes for ZPTCs and MPTCs will occur on November 11, whereas the counting for gram panchayats will commence post-polling.
The elections will be held across 565 mandals in 31 districts. Polling will involve 565 ZPTCs, 5,749 MPTCs, 12,733 gram panchayats, and 1,12,288 wards.
Voting will utilize ballot boxes and ballot papers, with ballot boxes borrowed from Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.
The State Election Commissioner announced that the voter demographic includes 1,67,03,168 individuals, consisting of 81,65,894 males, 85,36,770 females, and 504 others.
The SEC urged all voters and candidates to adhere strictly to the Model Code of Conduct to ensure a smooth and fair election process.
It’s worth noting that elections will not be conducted for 14 MPTCs, 27 gram panchayats, and 246 wards due to judicial stay orders.
She mentioned that the High Court has instructed the SEC to complete the election process by September 30. The SEC has petitioned for a 45-day extension from that date.
