Hyderabad, Jan 27 (NationPress) The State Election Commission has announced that elections for seven Municipal Corporations and 116 municipalities in Telangana are set for February 11. This was confirmed by State Election Commissioner I. Rani Kumudini during a press briefing after discussions with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police.
According to the outlined schedule, the election notice will be released by the relevant returning officer on January 28. On this date, ward-wise electoral rolls for urban local bodies will also be made available.
The deadline for submitting nominations is January 30, with the review of nominations occurring the following day.
The State Election Commissioner indicated that the list of validly nominated candidates will be published on January 31, while appeals for any rejected nominations can be submitted on February 1, to be resolved the next day.
February 3 marks the last chance for candidates to withdraw their nominations. On this same date, the final list of candidates will be published.
Polling is scheduled for February 11, with any re-polling, if necessary, taking place on February 12. The counting of votes will commence on February 13.
Approximately 52.43 lakh voters are eligible to participate in this municipal election, which includes 25.62 lakh males, 26.80 lakh females, and 640 others.
In total, there are 2,996 wards across these 123 urban local bodies. The State Election Commission will establish 8,203 polling stations and provide 16,031 ballot boxes for the voting process.
The commission will also set up 137 strong rooms and 136 counting centers.
Among the 2,996 wards, 864 have been reserved for women, while 647 are unreserved in the general category.
The government has allocated 463 seats for Backward Classes (general) and 391 for Backward Classes (women). Additionally, 254 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes (general) and 190 for Scheduled Castes (women). For Scheduled Tribes (general), 147 wards are reserved, alongside an additional 40 seats for Scheduled Tribes (women).
The elections for three other corporations, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with five municipalities, will take place later.
