Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, 11 August directed state officials to organise the Khelo India Youth Games 2026 on a grand scale, committing government funds and infrastructure upgrades to ensure Hyderabad hosts the national multi-sport event with full preparedness. The announcement followed a high-level review meeting held at the Bodhi Pavilion within the MCRHRD campus.

Review Meeting and Key Directives

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy chaired the review alongside Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials. He instructed the administration to assess the current condition of stadiums across Hyderabad and undertake permanent upgrades to bring them in line with national-level competition standards. Officials were told to begin preparations immediately, with no delay in mobilising resources.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the need to clearly assign responsibilities across three key areas: infrastructure development, event management, and guest facilities. Each vertical is to have designated officials accountable for delivery.

Ceremonies, Athletes and Cultural Outreach

Revanth Reddy directed officials to engage chief guests, renowned athletes, and film personalities for the opening and closing ceremonies, signalling that the state intends to give the Games significant cultural visibility beyond the sporting calendar. He stressed that every event must reflect the true spirit of sportsmanship.

The role of Arjuna Award recipients from Telangana, members of the Telangana Sports Hub Board, the Olympic Association, and national-level sports representatives was also discussed. The CM directed that plans for their involvement be drawn up well in advance.

Venues Across 20 Sports Disciplines

The Khelo India Youth Games 2026 will feature competitions across 20 sports disciplines, drawing participants from states across the country. The Chief Minister instructed officials to identify suitable venues for each discipline and make the necessary logistical arrangements. The government has reiterated its readiness to provide adequate funding for the entire exercise.

Who Attended the Review

The review meeting was attended by Government Advisor Ramakrishna Rao, Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) Chairman Shivasena Reddy, Special Chief Secretary (Sports) Jayesh Ranjan, and SATG Managing Director Sony Bala Devi. Their presence underscores the multi-departmental coordination the state is deploying for the event.
