Hyderabad, May 16 (NationPress) Telangana’s power demand surged by 9.8 percent this year, as reported by officials on Friday.
This year, the state's power demand hit a remarkable peak of 17,162 MW, marking an increase of 9.8 percent compared to last year, as disclosed during an energy sector review meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Energy Department officials informed the Chief Minister that the energy consumption is projected to rise to 18,138 MW by 2025-2026, and further escalate to 31,808 MW by 2034-2035.
They assured that quality power is being supplied consistently without interruptions.
Officials elaborated on the initiatives taken to develop advanced infrastructure for reliable power supply, especially with Hyderabad evolving into a data centre hub. The government has already announced plans for a Data City in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to collaborate with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) regarding energy needs for radial roads and satellite townships within the Regional Ring Road (RRR). He emphasized the need to upgrade substations in accordance with the ground-level power demand.
Officials were also urged to prioritize the modernization of the power supply network. The Chief Minister requested the establishment of an underground power supply system in the Future City. He stressed that there should be no electricity towers, poles, or overhead lines in this proposed area near Hyderabad, and high tension lines should be removed.
The meeting concluded with a decision to introduce smart poles on a trial basis throughout Greater Hyderabad. These smart poles will be placed at key locations including the Secretariat, Necklace Road, and KBR Park as part of a pilot project.
Revanth Reddy directed energy authorities to formulate plans for solar power generation along the 160 KM stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and to explore the feasibility of solar power generation on footpaths and nalas within GHMC limits.
