This announcement came during the 10th day memorial service for Damodar Reddy, held in Tungaturthy, located in the Suryapet district.
During his speech, Revanth Reddy remarked that the flow of the Godavari River in the unified Nalgonda district is a testament to the contributions made by Ramreddy Damodar Reddy (RDR). He emphasized that renaming SRSP-II after RDR would serve as a fitting tribute to the esteemed leader.
The Chief Minister also announced that a Government Order (GO) regarding this renaming would be issued within 24 hours.
Damodar Reddy passed away on October 1 in Hyderabad at the age of 73.
Having served as a five-time MLA, Damodar Reddy represented the Tungaturthy constituency on four occasions before transitioning to the nearby Suryapet Assembly seat post-delimitation. "He upheld the Congress banner in Nalgonda district and remained loyal to the party until his last moments," he stated.
The Chief Minister recalled Damodar Reddy's advocacy for bringing Godavari water to areas affected by fluoride in Nalgonda.
Leaders from the Congress party, including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjuna Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, expressed their condolences following Ramreddy Damodar Reddy's passing. Rahul Gandhi personally penned a letter to his son, Sarvottam, to offer his sympathies.
Sonia Gandhi assured that the party's high command would support his family.
The Chief Minister assured that Damodar Reddy’s family would be provided with a political opportunity.
