New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the government's dedication to guaranteeing that mobile and internet connectivity reaches every village in India.

In response to a question posed by Arunachal East BJP MP Tapir Gao concerning telecom services in Vijayanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, Scindia referenced the Union government's Vibrant Village Programme, which aims to incorporate border villages into the national framework.

"This initiative's objective is to enhance living conditions and provide sufficient livelihood opportunities for village residents," Scindia remarked while addressing the concern.

He acknowledged that Vijaynagar (also known as Vijoynagar) is historically significant, established in 1965 by Major General Ajit Singh Guraya, and is considered the First Village of India.

The minister reiterated the Centre's commitment to fortifying telecom infrastructure in the area to improve connectivity for its inhabitants.

However, Scindia noted that the installation of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) in the region presents challenges, as some areas fall within the Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary.

He mentioned that this matter is currently under judicial review by the Supreme Court, which complicates the efforts for infrastructure development.

Vijaynagar, a secluded administrative circle in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, continues to struggle with significant and prolonged telecom infrastructure issues.

Despite its role as an administrative hub, the region faces what officials and locals refer to as "digital darkness" due to a lack of reliable and high-speed mobile network services.

The valley remains mostly cut off from dependable digital communication networks, hindering access to vital online services, educational platforms, and banking facilities.

While the Arunachal Pradesh government has been actively working to expand 4G connectivity across various state regions and connecting multiple border villages under the Digital Bharat Nidhi scheme, remote areas like Vijaynagar have not fully benefited from these initiatives.

During the discussion, MP Tapir Gao also pointed out that members of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces stationed in Vijayanagar, along with local residents, face significant communication difficulties and urged the government to take prompt action to address the situation.

Point of View

The government's commitment to improving telecom connectivity in remote areas like Vijaynagar is commendable. However, the ongoing infrastructural challenges underscore the need for a comprehensive and pragmatic approach to ensure that all regions, especially those in border areas, are not left in digital isolation. The engagement of local voices and the swift resolution of legal hurdles are critical to achieving these goals.
