Mumbai, July 6 (NationPress) Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar characterized the addresses delivered by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray at their joint rally on Saturday as irrelevant, diversionary, and vague.
While addressing the media on Sunday, the Mumbai BJP chief criticized the Thackeray brothers for attempting to promote their own agenda and narrative under the guise of opposing the imposition of the Hindi language in the state.
“The Thackeray brothers boasted about their unification for Marathi pride, yet their true intention was to promote their own narrative and advance their political ambitions,” Ashish Shelar expressed.
He further remarked that the speeches from the two leaders at the joint rally were more about political theatrics rather than meaningful content.
“Raj Thackeray’s comments during his speech were not only incomplete but also irrelevant. He attempted to create a narrative that belittles immigrants from other states, while Uddhav appeared to be lamenting his fall from power,” Shelar stated.
In response to Raj Thackeray’s controversial remark suggesting that non-Marathi speakers should be physically harmed, the BJP deemed it utterly absurd and reprehensible.
“Such statements are deeply troubling. I find such utterances very painful,” he added.
Ashish Shelar also expressed his support for the Centre’s three-language policy, emphasizing that political maneuvering should be avoided on matters of national significance.
“They question in which states the three-language formula is in place. I want to clarify that 20 states have embraced this formula. Raj Thackeray opposes it for the children of Mumbai, yet he has never objected to it for his own children. This is injustice,” he commented.
He further explained that the three-language policy allows children to learn in their mother tongue, while these leaders aim to rob them of this opportunity.
Regarding the reunion of the Thackeray brothers, he mentioned that it is heartening to see two siblings come together, and their families would surely appreciate this development; however, it remains their decision whether they will participate in elections as a united front or separately.
