New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Amid ongoing violence in Nagpur, which remains under curfew due to numerous incidents of arson and vandalism, the political arena is rife with harsh exchanges and accusations.

SS(UBT) Aditya Thackeray criticized the current administration for its poor management of the violence and accused the Fadnavis government of leading Maharashtra into a scenario akin to the riot-stricken Manipur. This prompted a swift and forceful response from the BJP, which labeled Thackeray with a 'golden spoon' insult, asserting he disrespected the dignity of Maharashtra.

BJP leader Ram Kadam, in remarks to IANS, condemned Thackeray, stating, “He hails from a wealthy background, possessing a golden spoon. Today, he has brazenly disrespected the heritage of Maharashtra. Our state boasts a rich legacy and immense pride, which should not be sullied by linking it with the strife of another state.”

Kadam further highlighted the economic performance under previous administrations, asserting, “Under Uddhav Thackeray's leadership, Maharashtra garnered only Rs 30,000 crores, whereas under our governance, we amassed an impressive Rs 15.72 lakh crores, credited to the efforts of Devendra Fadnavis.”

He reiterated allegations of a premeditated scheme behind the violence, blaming the Opposition for attempting to capitalize on communal discord.

“This is part of a scheme to provoke riots. Law enforcement is probing and interrogating those involved in stone-pelting. Strict measures will be enforced against the offenders,” he asserted.

Earlier, Thackeray reacted to the violence in Nagpur, claiming that the Maharashtra government was deliberately inciting a Manipur-like crisis within the state.

“You inquire about my response to the violence, yet there has been no official statement from the Chief Minister's office. This is the Chief Minister's own city. If they had the information, why were they oblivious to the situation? It appears the Maharashtra government is intentionally fostering a Manipur-like scenario. How can investment occur in a state plagued by such violence?” Thackeray remarked.

The unrest erupted during demonstrations by Hindu groups demanding the demolition of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. A rumor about a 'holy chadar' being set ablaze spread on social media, leading hundreds of protesters to engage in arson, vandalism, and stone-pelting across various regions of Nagpur.

In response, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the state government would not show leniency towards those involved in the violence. He stressed that anyone inciting riots or attacking law enforcement would face strict legal repercussions, irrespective of their caste or religion. He also noted that the violence in Nagpur seemed orchestrated and assured that the state would implement decisive actions to restore order.

Nagpur Police have confirmed the detention of over 50 individuals linked to the violence.
