Bengaluru, May 26 (NationPress) Senior Congress figure Shashi Tharoor and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, along with a delegation from the Indian All-Party Parliamentary group currently visiting the Americas, engaged with H.E. Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. They discussed various topics, prominently including India’s strong stance against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
A statement from Surya’s office released on Monday highlighted the delegation’s commitment to India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, while also examining potential collaborations in areas such as infrastructure, energy, fintech, and agriculture.
Vice President Jagdeo, who has previously served as President of Guyana for 12 years and is regarded as one of the most respected leaders in the region, had condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed support for India’s Operation Sindoor, as noted by Surya.
After the meeting, Surya remarked: “Our delegation had a constructive dialogue with Vice President Jagdeo regarding India’s battle against terrorism and the vast potential for collaboration between India and Guyana across various sectors.”
He emphasized Guyana’s swift economic progress, fueled by the discovery of new oil reserves, stating: “With the nation expanding at over 30 percent, the opportunities for Indian enterprises are immense.”
Before this meeting, Surya addressed students at Texila American University, a top institution enhancing India-Guyana educational connections. Since 2010, the university has welcomed over 538 Indian students and 76 Indian faculty members, with more than 234 Indian graduates now contributing to Guyana’s healthcare system.
During his speech, Surya reiterated India’s unwavering dedication to combating cross-border terrorism, especially from Pakistan. “The global community must unite against state-sponsored terrorism. Through initiatives like Operation Sindoor, India is taking a lead in the international response,” he declared.
The visiting delegation, led by Shashi Tharoor, is part of Group 5 and includes MPs from various political lines: Shambhavi (LJP – Ram Vilas), Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), G.M. Harish Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Murli Deora (Shiv Sena – Shinde faction), and Tejasvi Surya (BJP), along with Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
While part of the group visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York, Surya and Dr. Ahmad traveled directly to Guyana following a 30-hour journey from India.
This initiative forms part of the Government of India’s extensive campaign to gather global support for its anti-terror efforts, especially in light of the rising incidents of terrorism backed by Pakistan, as per the statement.
