Kolkata, Oct 19 (NationPress) Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has vehemently denounced the purported attack on Darjeeling MP Raju Bista in North Bengal, attributing the blame to the Trinamool Congress for this despicable act carried out by its affiliates.

On Saturday evening, while returning from Rimbik after carrying out relief efforts, BJP MP Raju Bista's convoy was assaulted by miscreants in the Sukhia Pokhari area of Darjeeling district. A complaint was promptly filed the same night, leading to the registration of an FIR, as confirmed by the police on Sunday.

Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash stated, "The MP has reported an attack on his convoy. We have commenced an investigation."

In the meantime, Suvendu Adhikari has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) members of plotting the attack.

In a post on X, Adhikari expressed, "I firmly condemn the cowardly attack on my colleague and MP from Darjeeling, Shri Raju Bista Ji, in Masdhura near Sukhia Pokhari. This incident follows the life-threatening assault on MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh."

The BJP MLA from Nandigram alleged that the assault was perpetrated by 'TMC goons' intending to cause significant harm.

Adhikari emphasized Bista's ongoing relief efforts in the aftermath of recent floods in North Bengal.

"This atrocious act by TMC goons, targeting his convoy with the aim of inflicting severe injury, reveals their desperation and fear. Shri Raju Bista's unwavering relief efforts following the devastating floods have evidently unsettled the TMC, prompting them to resort to such vile tactics to silence him. However, I assure you, these cowardly assaults will only bolster our determination," Adhikari remarked.

Reiterating the BJP's pledge to support its leaders and supporters, Adhikari asserted that such attacks would not sway the party's resolve. "Let me be clear, these cowardly attacks will only strengthen our resolve. Not just the people of Darjeeling, but individuals across the State of West Bengal stand with him, and he will continue his commendable work with renewed vigor," added the BJP leader.

Following the attack on his convoy, BJP MP Raju Bista himself shared details regarding the incident.

"In Masdhura, near Sukhia Pokhari today, my convoy was assaulted by unidentified miscreants. Though those cowards targeted me, the impact of the attack struck the vehicle immediately behind mine. The timing of this assault, coming after the announcement of an Interlocutory for our region, seems highly suspicious and suggests a conspiracy to disrupt peace in our area," Bista stated in a social media post on Saturday.

He was referring to the Centre's decision to appoint a government interlocutor concerning Gorkha issues in Darjeeling, Dooars, and Terai region in North Bengal.

"If those loyal to Kolkata believe that we will be intimidated by such attacks, they are mistaken. We are not afraid, and such cowardly acts only strengthen our resolve. I caution those who aimed to disturb peace today; we will not allow your attempts to succeed. We are committed to achieving lasting peace in our region, and no force on earth can prevent that from happening," declared the BJP MP.

This incident follows weeks after BJP MP Khagen Murmu and party MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked by miscreants in the Nagrakata area of Jalpaiguri district. A total of six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the attack on Khagen Murmu.
