Gurugram, March 7 (NationPress) A team from the Gurugram Police's cyber crime unit has apprehended three individuals, including a woman, for reportedly supplying a bank account to cyber fraudsters under the guise of customer service, as stated by officials.
The suspects have been identified as Nilofar and Abhishek, both residents of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, along with Harshit Shukla from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police reports, a complaint was lodged on February 13 at the Cyber Crime Police Station (South). The victim mentioned in his report that he searched for an India Post contact number on Google. Upon calling that number, he was deceived out of Rs 95,000 through a conversation with the fraudsters.
Following this complaint, a case was filed under sections 318(4) and 319 at the police station. During the investigation, a police team directed by inspector Naveen Kumar, the SHO of the concerned station, took decisive action and, aided by technology, captured the three suspects on Thursday.
During questioning, it was revealed that all suspects possessed counterfeit Aadhaar cards registered to a Delhi address, which they used to open multiple bank accounts in their names. The accused would then rent these bank accounts to cyber criminals, receiving Rs 5000 for each account, as explained by Sandeep Kumar, the spokesperson for Gurugram Police.
The authorities seized three mobile phones, three SIM cards, three ATM cards, eight chequebooks, and 11 passbooks from the suspects. Further actions are being pursued in accordance with legal protocols, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Senior Gurugram police officials stated that they are collaborating with various agencies and organizations to combat cyber fraud. In light of the rising incidents of cybercrime, Gurugram Police is actively targeting cyber criminals. “We are fully committed to halting the surge in cybercrime and apprehending those responsible,” said Kumar.
