Chennai, April 7 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has issued a show-cause notice to a private matriculation school in Coimbatore after it reportedly coerced parents into signing a stamp paper that stated they would withdraw their child if her academic performance did not meet expectations.

According to sources, the school, situated in Venkitapuram, summoned the parents of a Class 2 student and insisted they sign a legal document. The stamp paper specified that if their daughter failed to achieve academic benchmarks, the parents would willingly obtain a Transfer Certificate (TC) from the institution.

This incident led to outrage across social media platforms, prompting immediate action from the District School Education Department. Officials issued a show-cause notice to the school, demanding an explanation.

In a response, the school released a statement on social media, asserting that the document was acquired without proper authorization and blamed a class teacher, who has been suspended.

A senior official from the education department stated to IANS, “Upon receiving the information, we contacted the school and instructed them to ensure that the child’s education proceeds without interruption. A show-cause notice has been issued, and an inquiry will follow.”

This incident has raised significant concerns among parents in Coimbatore regarding the escalating academic pressure on students.

Radhika Vijayaraja, a mother of a Class 2 student, expressed, “My daughter is an intelligent and lively child who loves to play outside. However, the school does not encourage sports and instead places heavy academic demands on students. She frequently finds her studies to be overwhelming.”

Another parent, Chitralekha, advocated for a curriculum reassessment. “Even nursery, LKG, and UKG students are inundated with work. The syllabus should be age-appropriate,” she remarked.

The absence of physical education and sports facilities is another critical issue. Saravanan, whose son is in Class 6, pointed out, “Many private schools lack adequate playgrounds or PE instructors. The relentless push for high grades breeds unhealthy competition and mental stress.”

Affordability remains a significant concern as well. “Parents seek private schools for improved education quality, but exorbitant fees and limited availability make access challenging. We require a more equitable fee structure,” stated Sangeeta, another parent.

A senior official from the School Education Department indicated that stringent actions would be taken against institutions that breach educational standards or exert undue pressure on students.
